We sourced a 54mm performance Piston
which has better quality and
ring configuration than the standard item. It is also 2mm lager in
diameter lifting the capacity to 107cc. The Piston is also available
in OS so rebores are possible unlike the 57mm Malossi Cylinder which
needs to be junked. |
 |
You can see the differences
between our modified Cylinder on the
left and the standard. Just a lot of know how that's all! Basically,
standard Yam runs 118 Trans and 168 Exhaust. Play with pipes, carbs
and transmissions all day long. It'll never go... |
 |
The Yams exhaust port is one
of it's biggest
restrictions. Malossi is the same too! Why?) It needs to be tapered
and matched to the exhaust Header, which brings me to another point.
Noticed how the Leo Vinci HMZX uses a 50cc size Header? (32mm and
around 50mm shorter does the trick!) |

This is what the kit looks like
like as a package. I'm not giving
away too much but for those of who are smart enough, get to it! The
standard Cylinder Head is a disaster. It is of the wave or ripple
type and as such does not permit a tight squish to be set. Easy, we
weld it up and machine it correctly, keeping around the same CC and
finishing with a full squish type layout. This way cooling and
detonation are supressed at higher power levels. Oh, and that
Aluminium welds like cheese too! |
 |
Magic! Hey that Cylinder deck looks
machined too! What the? |
 |
We also developed a new Carb setup
as opposed to the off the shelf
22mm Malossi item which is jetted to run with the Yam Air box. This
is a 21mm PHVB with an oval bore which improves throttle
response. It's sorted to run with a Pod filter but still requires
the large diameter inlet manifold as shown. Sounds awesome and is razor
sharp! |
 |
Because this engine will run at
around 9-9500RPM the timing
needs to be retarded to suit. As there are currently no aftermarket
CDI's available, we slot the ignition trigger and are able to retard
the timing by near 3 degrees. This ensure high RPM stability. |
 |
Back on the road and run in the
Aerox now displays a
completely different character, with the front wheel now able be
lofted quite easily under full acceleration. Overall its a massive
upgrade to this normally pedestrian but colorful scooter
